On Wed July 9th a personal tragedy struck the Baulk family of St. Agatha. In a matter of a few hours their home, their belongings and their family pet were gone.
Mary Jane a single mom with 2 university age daughters were now homeless.
Many of the neighbours and friends of Mary Jane were at a loss as how to help them. A clothing drive was initiated with drew far more clothes than the family could take but was greatly appreciated by them.
Next the neighbours and the Lions club initiated a fund raiser BBQ. The out pouring of support for this event was amazing. The volunteers to sell tickets, donate prizes, set up, and make food were amazing.
The BBQ was held on Wed, August 13th from 5 till 8. Chicken was BBQ’d by Mike Kennedy of the St. Agatha Lions Club as well as Hamburgers and Hotdogs. Corn on the Cob was prepared which had been donated by Herrles Country Market. Potato Salad was prepared by the neighbours.
On the evening of the BBQ over 300 people attended the St. Agatha Community Centre to partake in the food and friendship of the day.
A Silent Auction and Raffle table was offered which many of the local business’s donated prizes.
The overall evening was a great success and was fun for all involved. The neighbours, friends and family of Mary Jane should be very proud of themselves. The funds raised were in excess of $6.900.00. This week a presentation was made to Mary Jane of these funds.
