Dark storm clouds and a tornado warning may have scared away some people, but Expressway Motors’ Cruise Night still went ahead Aug. 24.
The seventh-annual car show and community barbecue attracted people to the New Hamburg dealership under a grey sky.
This year, only 123 cars registered for the show, which is less than half of last year’s total. Visitor totals were also down slightly, said organizer Ian Hasler.
The tornado warning and impending rain that could damage cars likely scared away many owners, he said. The show also ended early as people went home to take shelter from the coming storm.
“Obviously we were disappointed there weren’t more cars,” Hasler said. “But considering the weather we weren’t expecting that many people to show up.
Expressway’s Cruise Night also featured a charity barbecue run by the New Hamburg Lions Club and a DJ playing music.
