Harold Albrecht supporters in Kitchener-Conestoga were happy Monday night as the Conservative candidate rolled to an easy victory with 54 per cent of the local vote.
A crowd of staff and supporters filled the Edelweiss tavern in Kitchener and cheered as every local riding but Guelph chose Conservative Members of Parliament. The cheered again as it became clear Canada had given Stephen Harper a majority government, with 167 out of 308 seats and 40 per cent of the total votes.
Albrecht was unable to attend. He took his wife Betty to hospital after she collapsed unconscious after a migraine just before the celebration. Betty was taken to Hamilton General Hospital for surgery that night and is still in intensive care.
