Wilmot Wild eliminate top-ranked Caledon in penalty-filled playoff win

The Wild are moving on to the next round of Jr. C lacrosse playoffs after defeating the Caledon Bandits 6-3 on July 31.

Wilmot jumped ahead in the first period and Caledon began a parade to the penalty box as their frustration built. The Wild, meanwhile, mostly kept their cool and capitalized on the resulting powerplays to beat the team who had defeated them several times in the regular season.

The Bandits took 111 minutes on 26 infractions, while Wilmot received only 21 minutes on 9 infractions.

The game turned testy as the clock ticked down towards’s first-place Caledon’s defeat. Fans, players, and coaches lashed out at referees, resulting in several ejections. These included two gross misconducts, a match penalty, and multiple game misconducts in the last two minutes of the game and after the final buzzer.

Dylan Chaarbonneau led the way for the Wild with two goals and an assist, while netminder Josh Falkenstern stood tall in net.
