Hitting homeruns for charity at Wellesley’s Don Green Memorial slow-pitch tournament

Coulton Roe swings for the fences at the Don Green Memorial Tournament in Wellesley Aug. 13.

Wellesley hosted the Don Green Memorial slow-pitch tournament on Aug. 13 to raise money for the village’s new splashpark.

This was the 27th edition of the annual two-day baseball tournament, hosted at the Wellesley baseball diamonds. Eighteen men’s, women’s and co-ed teams played last weekend.

The tournament usually raises between $5,000 and $6,000 through a 50/50 draw, team fees and the Wellesley and District Lions Club’s barbecue and drink sales.

The Lions have organized the yearly fundraiser for the past two years, long after the Green family started the baseball tournament in Don’s honour.

This year’s funds will help pay for maintenance at Wellesley’s new water park.
