Students in Baden Public School’s Me to We Team got into the holiday spirit by organizing an angel tree in support of the Wilmot Family Resource Centre’s annual Christmas hamper program.

Young club members spearheaded a campaign that encouraged each class to collect Christmas gifts this month. The gifts were taken to the centre last week, where the toys will be distributed to local children, from infants to teenagers.

The school’s response was great, said teacher Rebecca Bearinger Fay. The angel tree gifts were also a real way for students to understand the needs in their own neighbourhoods.

One student said the piles of presents made her sad because of the nearby people who needed help.

“It made poverty in Wilmot Township tangible to her,” Bearinger Fay said.
